The event will discuss the important role of Europe’s hunting and trapping communities in citizen science research. It will showcase various examples of hunter and trapper-led projects from around Europe, highlighting the scientific contribution of these activities.

There will be a focus on a range of activities including dog counts, bird ringing, satellite tagging, and marking.

Capture-marking-recapture programmes form a fundamental part of bird ecology science. Scientific bird ringing is one of the most effective methods to study the biology, ecology, behaviour, movement, breeding productivity and population demography of birds.

Other modern techniques being used for such programmes include GPS tagging of birds to follow their migration route and timing.
