05 Dec 2021 Report on the 41st Bern Convention Standing Committee
What happened:
The 41st Bern Convention Standing Committee took place from 29th November to 3rd December 2021, once again online due to the ongoing pandemic. Contracting Parties, NGO representatives, experts and others discussed a variety of topics, ranging from strategic developments, to progress on case-files. Further, the vision for the Bern Convention to 2030 was adopted.
Why it matters:
The most relevant topics for FACE were about Invasive Alien Species (IAS), illegal killing of birds, progress on the eradication of the Ruddy Duck and the Emerald Network. By attending this meeting, FACE made sure to stay well up to date with these matters and to pass on relevant information and developments to its Members. Please find a detailed update on the Rudy Duck situation in Europe here.
Collaboration with the BC in 2022:
Also in 2022, FACE will actively participate in the Expert Group on developing a strategic plan to 2030 thereby ensuring that sustainable use is high on the agenda. In June 2022, the joint Meeting of the CMS Intergovernmental Task Force on Illegal Killing, Taking and Trade of Migratory Birds and 7th meeting of the Bern Convention Group of Experts on the conservation of birds will take place in Valencia, Spain. FACE will be present to oversee these areas.
