Today, the European Parliament (EP) in plenary session voted on the revision of the EU Firearms Directive and approved it. All amendments have been rejected.
FACE and ESFAM to jointly tackle the plenary vote in the European Parliament on the Firearms Directive
Today, at the International Weapons Exhibition (IWA) and Outdoor Classics 2017 trade show in Nuremberg, Germany, FACE and the Association of European Manufacturers of Sporting Firearms (ESFAM) strengthened again their bond and commitment to tackle remaining critical issues of the Firearms Directive ahead of the crucial vote in the European Parliament plenary session mid of March 2017.
For the past six months, FACE and its Members worked tirelessly on an IUCN motion, which was originally designed to ban all lead ammunition over all habitats, including for Olympic clay shooting disciplines.
Last week, the motion was put to the floor of the IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC) in Hawaii (1-10 September 2016).
EDITORIAL: the European Parliament fixed the flawed proposal of the European Commission about the Firearms Directive
“A vote in the IMCO Committee of the European Parliament just confirmed that the legal users of firearms should not suffer constraints in the practice of hunting and sport shooting.
The vote of the IMCO Committee took into account the concerns brought forward by FACE and considerably improved the proposal of the European Commission giving a clear mandate to the European Parliament in the upcoming negotiations with the Commission and the Council.
Yesterday, reacting to the tragic events in Paris of 13 November, the European Commission rushed a proposal to review the Firearms Directive. FACE supports the European Commission’s initiatives in the fight against terrorism and illegal practices. FACE nonetheless questions how the Commission’s proposal to further restrict the lawful possession of firearms by hunters and sports shooters would prevent terrorists from committing atrocities.

At the 2014 FACE Members’ Meeting hosted by the Swedish Hunters’ Association, FACE Members agreed to sign the Agreement on the European Platform to be officially launched in June by Commissioner Janez Potočnik.
NEW EU REGULATION TO APPLY FROM 30 SEPTEMBER 2013: Transfer of firearms and ammunition to and from countries outside the EU
On 30 March 2012 the new EU Regulation No 258/2012 on the transfer of firearms and ammunition for civilian use, including by hunters and sport shooters, to and from countries outside the EU was published in the Official Journal of the EU, L 94.
