The Mid-Term Review: The Role of Hunters and Rural Stakeholders in Financing Biodiversity Conservation
European conference on “The Role of Hunters and Rural Stakeholders in Financing Biodiversity Conservation” to be held by the “Biodiversity, Hunting, Countryside” Intergroup at the European Parliament in Brussels on January 1st, 2016.
The conference “The Mid-Term Review: ” will be chaired by MEP Karl-Heinz Florenz, President of the Parliamentary Intergroup Biodiversity, Hunting, Countryside and supported by FACE.
The conference features a range of experts who will present different perspectives on the role of hunters and other rural stakeholders in biodiversity conservation. There will be a particular focus on the financing of biodiversity with regard to the targets set out in the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2020.
The meeting is organised following the recognition of ongoing biodiversity loss and the degradation of ecosystem services in the EU, which have continued since the EU 2010 biodiversity baseline, as confirmed by the 2015 European environment - state and outlook report. This is consistent with global trends and has serious implications for the capacity of biodiversity to meet human needs in the future
- MEP Dr Norbert LINS, German MEP and the Shadow Rapporteur for the Report on the Mid-Term review of the Biodiversity Strategy 2020
- Mr Christopher PRICE, Policy Director of the Country Land and Business Association
- Dr David SCALLAN, Wildlife Policy Officer of FACE
- Dr Justin IRVINE, from the James Hutton Institute in Scotland.
Several research projects including the HUNT (Hunting for Sustainability) project and the FACE Biodiversity Manifesto will be discussed, demonstrating the engagement of European hunters for biodiversity conservation.
